Playstation 4, 5, and 6 already in the works

I still don't understand people's reasoning by calling the PS3 a disaster. The PS3 is a few years ahead of it's time, and it is expected to stick around for at least 10 years before becoming outdated. That's not a disaster, that's securing yourself in the industry for the long term. So while in 3-5 years you'll need to fork over another $300 for a new Nintendo system, your PS3 will still be a top competitor in the industry. Yeah, disaster. Right. Just like Net Income determines how well a company performs (right Kotaku?). It's like releasing a flying car. Nobody is gonna buy it except very few people, and it will be overpriced, but it still will be around in 10 years when the competition catches up.

SONY has not really been known for making durable products. PS1, PS2, WEGA TVs, pretty much all of their products have the widespread reputation of crap that fails after 2 or 3 years. Not to just pick on SONY; pretty much every electronics maker has the same reputation. That's just how electronics are made these days by every company. But still; what makes you think in your wildest dreams that PS3 is durable enough that a unit is going to last 10 years without a disc drive error or some other crap after the warranty runs out?

Stavy was talking about technology :p

who said anything about durability?
Well...technically you did say something about how with nintendo you will have to go spend another $300 in 5 years when the next one comes out while your PS3 will still be a top competitor. That's all well and good but it's not going to mean much when your PS3 is sitting there broken and unable to be used and your warranty has run out. So in fact you still will have to spend another $600 anyway.

To expand on Artica's short response, Stav was referring to the fundamental functional design of the product and the potential longevity of that design. If the design allows games that are better than the competition's games while keeping backward compatibility and not requiring a redesign of the interfaces, new console units will be sold to replace the broken ones. Mom and dad may object to buying another console unit to replace one that has broken, but as soon as a child becomes old enough to pick up a refurb at GameStop without mom and dad finding out, durability becomes much less of an issue.

Dealing directly with your response, games traditionally sell the consoles, not the other way around. Consoles are basically partial lock-ins to game royalties for the console makers. As I've said previously in this thread, the PS3 uses a revolutionary functional design for its industry. Not very many people in the world know how to make software to take advantage of this design, and the vast majority of them are already gainfully and meaningfully employed well outside the entertainment industry. The hurdle for SCE is to build a critical mass of effective programming "capital" for their design before their competitors build programmable prototypes of competing revolutionary designs. This is of course just my opinion and it is by no means a certainty even if I'm reading the situation right.

on top of that it was mostly people coming with friends/relatives so they could get more than one which was utter bullshit due to the fact that 2 days later they sold the wii for 1 per party
