Key note on that is the burning of CDs using 16x or higher speeds. So if you want your burned CDs to last for a long time:
1: Don't use crappy $0.20 CDs, pay a little extra for the descent quality ones
2: Don't use faster than 16x to burn them, yeah I know it takes longer but it is worth it in the long run
3: Always have a CD-ROM on your computer, a lot of these "damaged" CDs don't work in DVD readers, but work fine in good ole fashioned CD readers. Get my drift.
4: Don't use your CDs as coasters, seriously, that's what the AOL CDs are for.
Been burning CDs that have lasted a LOT longer than their ridiculous 5 year max life.

Mine can hold a big gulp. After some creative jamming.I don't use my CD's as coasters thank you very much. That is what the built in cup holder in my computer is for.

Link it!!!I read an article before, where they said CDs lasted 30 years

Oh, and by the way, my oldest burnt CD is about 10 years old or so, has a bunch of old games on it, Prince of Persia 1 & 2, Kings quest 1-6, Dune 2000, oh, and a bunch more i can't think of off hte top of my head.
As long as you take care of your disks, and don't buy crappy ones to start of with they should last a long time. Nothing is indefinate obviously, but it should still last.

I miss those games!!!
