********** Warning the ramblings of a major 80's metal music junkie are to follow **********

Sweet, a poll about my happy place.....teehee.
This is a tough one for me though lol.

Metallica - Been a long time fan. They have by far faired well through all of their changes. Master of Puppets one of my all time fav albums.

Megadeath- who can't love them, especially when you're in a bad mood :p good stress reliever. Peace Sells god i love that one

Slayer - never really got into them at all

Iron Maiden - love their sound, you certainly can't forget Eddie. wished i lived in Europe so I could see more of them. 7th son of a 7th son was one of my favs

Quiet Riot - too much of a flash in the pan

VanHalen - man who cannot appreciate all the guitar, bass and drum solos!! God pretty , much know every song by heart. They had managed to survive through the frontman changes, for those of us fans we will just ignore the one deifinte error in judgement lol.... Hard to pick a fav but definitely love 5150

Twister Sister- OMG who could forget I Wanna Rock and We're not gonna take it. Dee Snider kicks some major ass. Loved his movie Strangeland. One of the few who definitely proved he does have a brain  Have to say I like Big Hits and Nasty Cuts as it has a good compilation of their best songs from all their albums.

Pantera - another of the few I was never able to get into

Def Lepard - knows their songs, but have never been a true fan. I always thought they were too bubble gummy lol.

So after staring at this screen for hours, I am gonna have to vote for Metallica. Mainly due to the fact that they have survived to this point. But I am sure their will be a VanHalen fan to beat me up :p

Iron Maiden. Every album was a friggin addiction up to Virtual XI, and then they sucked until they released Rock in Rio

P.s. steve harris is a fuckin god

I had to go with Def Leppard due to the topic "Best 80's Metal Band".

Without the facts infront of me, I'd wager Def Leppard had more #1 hits than all of the others combined.

Plus, every song on their Hysteria album is awesome. Every single song could've been a #1 if released as a single. Add Pyromania and Adrenalize to that, and you have the Best 80's Metal Band.

But if we're playing favorites, Motley Crue was probably the biggest and best touring band of the 80's.

Oh, and as a side note, I don't think you can qualify Metallica as a choice for Best 80's Metal Band.

... And Justice for All was thier first album to reach the top 10 of the charts, and the highest it ever went was #6, and that was 1988, none of their albums at that point even broke the top 25.
Their first big hit, the black Metallica album was released in 1991.

While most people know Bon Jovi is my all time fav 80's band ^_^ ......I have never classified them as a heavy metal band. Now with that said I chose Iron Maiden. The Number of the Beast was the first song I ever heard from them as was swept up in their music immediatly, from the power vocals to god like guitar riffs this band to me defined 80's Heavy Metal.

Metalica before they sold out.

Lars: "We're not against napster because we need the money, but if people are downloading our songs for free, we don't get paid."

Don't matter, they still sold out.

Although Megadeath was prob my favorite, Iron Maiden and Metallica probably had the most influence on Metal from the 80's on. Several on there I wouldn't even classify as metal.

Wow I think your the idiot seeing as how they came out in the early 80's and inspired just about every other metal band known today... Misfit -> Metallica -> Slayer -> Basically every other metal band around

Actually I have to double post. That was an assanine comment. Wow just wow the audacity...

Pfft...

Seeing as Metallica's peak of popularity was in the 90's, I'd say they're a 90's band. The Beatles released an album in 1970, does that make them a 70's band?

Even if you want to label them as an 80's band, how can you ever try to classify them as the best when none of their 80's albums even cracked the top 25 of the charts.

And just to derail some flames, I was very much a Metallica fan, even all the way back in 1983. Fortunately I had a friend with an older brother that was into it, so I had plenty of exposure.
