Wanted:

Darein

Retired SWG Bounty Hunter
Yeah so I finished my Associate in Arts degree last quarter, and I can work the next 2 quarters and then go back to school, or just work and not go back to school, or whatever.

I was thinking about getting a degree in Computer Science since I already use computers so much and I'm comfortable around them. My mom also had me apply as a Correctional Officer because she won't have me sitting around on my computer all day, and honestly that doesn't look too bad. Also I really have the feeling she expects me to move out soon here though she hasn't asked me to yet - she does want me to start paying rent though.

If I go back to school, what degrees can/should I do, and how do the loans work?

If I go into computers, what options do I have for my career, and are there other computer-oriented degrees I should look into?

Also not sure if going to the local private college is going to cost more or going to Washington State University. WSU is probably cheaper but I can go to local private college while living at mom's.

I'm interested in game design, image design, web design, and cool stuff like that. So there's something to give ya'll ideas.

I'm not interested in math or programming because it takes too much Vulcanism (logic) and like memory of code to program. I might do programming maybe if math weren't a problem. I passed pre-calc 1 but I failed pre-calc 2 and I REALLY don't like math. At all. I don't think I'd like to work with hardware either but you never know.

If you're lookin at programing you can get a BS in computer science or a BS in management info systems or a BA in graphic design if you don't like math then computer science is not for you.

Private is always more then Local.

Loans pretty much work how they sound. You get so much money that helps pay you're way through college and you have to pay them back in instalments.

Correctional Officer is a tough gig. Computer Science is a fast pace changing environment nowadays. That is what my degree with information systems will be in a year or so

Comp Sci is hard to get into. Often companies want years of xp with software that hasn't even been out that long. You need to stay on the cutting edge all the time.

I'm kinda feeling the "what am I going to do now" bug too. I want something more creative.

I finished with an MS in Comp Engineering (NOT the same as Comp Sci). Let me say that if you go that route, and you want to be successful you will ALWAYS have to be learning. Constantly trying to keep up with technology and changes. Sometimes I feel like I never left school :P

EDIT: Learning doesn't mean classes or universities, but reading, going to conferences, talking to folks, that kind of stuff.

Well. It can mean classes too.

Yeah it can, but once you get an MS or PhD, you tend to not want to sit in a class again.

Bah I learned Commadore 64 and I never learned anything new and I am good. I find it harder to exchange information though on this tape drive but I am confident that this CD-ROM thing is a fad and will fade out.

Laser Disc.

Holy shit, I remember when they were going to be the next "big" thing. ROFL! Watching yuppies trying to handle those massive discs and figuring out how to store them was priceless.

Yes man they were so big you feared you might need 3 hands to handle them.
