Ok,
currently I have a Geforce FX 5200 Ultra 128mb video card, and it's approximately 4 years old.

I need to upgrade to play Dark and Light, and the only one so far in my budget is the ATI Radeon 9550 256mb

I'm just curious, how much of an improvement would that be?

The memory doesn't hurt but........I would check DnL, some video games are written with a certain chip-set in mind. Other than that i have never had a problem with ATI though I am an nvidea chica myself. Also check a couple game sites there are people who test video cards and will give you a good idea if it's worth the money or not.

hehe i know i would have said the same thing :P

I prefer Nvidias myself.
Get a Geforce 6600 card. They are good without being too pricey. 6800 is better.
It's not worth getting a card which won't hold up to the next game release. Save up and spend a bit more now and save yourself having to upgrade again soon.

is a radeon 9550 much better than a radeon 9250?
[/b]

Yeah,
but I plan on upgrading in a year or so with the best money can buy once I'm working full time for the police department and I have a steady income.

I can only afford something around 100-150 right now because I don't get any money for my internship and I only work on saturdays for real money

Oh yeah,
and my motherboard right now can only support up to 4x AGP. Would it matter if i bought an 8x AGP?
