Today's Rant: Suicidal Goths

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Darein @ Jan 18 2006, 08:17 PM)
Yeah probably because they feel like they're f***ing a corpse.

depends on the goth doesn't it.

Yes it would, but I for one am not particularly attracted to Goths/Gothic things. Usually I take it as a keyword for damaged goods, whether or not that be the case.

I would have to say that IN general this is often the case.
I love the look of it all and the byronesque depression and drama, I think a lot of it is about drama.

than being said I really like the music, and I love black.
Not every goth is a suicidally manic drepressed waif

some of us do smile once in a while

Would it be gothlike to hump a dead moose?

no that would just be sick, smelly and somewhat psychpathic

DONT JUDGE ME!

Well I get along with "Goth" people just I differ on their fashion. Let me explain why. I feel that you can have interesting and non conformist thoughts without wearing black and having an bone through your nose. I think that when you do that it makes it harder to blend into society. For example. I applied for a job with another guy and we were from the same temp service. He had earrings, wore metal t-shirts and longer hair. Him and I thought alike and we were both qualified for the position but in the end they wanted someone who looked more business like. Do I think that is fair? No, but it is reality. Now the white collar worker can never take my thoughts away from and can think I am a conformist when I really just blend in and think the way I want to.

I agree with this, I never went to job interviews in 'goth get up' and at that time piercings except for earing were not in ( 84-) At some point you conform somewhat and get on with life, not all people do this and I respect them for that. But in the end something has to give way. ...

Yes let's face it. Working sucks. 40 hours+ is hard enough without people judging you. When you punch out for the day your time is YOUR time, fuck them. You can dress how you want then. But people have to understand when you work, it is not your own time it is someone elses time.

El-D, you should go to work dressed up as a Dark Lord of the Sith and see how people react. And if they say or do something that pisses you off, get one of those makeshift Darth Maul lightsabers from Toys R Us and hit them with it.

yup. I have worked in maynmany places at many different things and all required to a certain degree or another a dress code of some sort , be it jeans and t, or a real nuiform, medical scribs and alab coat or a bikini.... you dress for the part and you play your role.

on my own time I am pretty bohemian / goth in my attire. I like pretty things and long flowing dresses... etc.... I danced for many years so I like my clothing to move with me, but in the work environment on , say a boat in a galley this is impractical.

so you know... you do what you have to.

ROFL funny cause the people I work with are heavy online gamers. WoW, Eve, and SWG are common games in a tech department. In fact I learned it is a small world as we were talking about online games and someone brought up SWG and how NGE sucks and we talked and he goes "YOU'RE EL-D? Funny posts man."

I am discriminated against when I go out. I mean if a man can't walk around naked... what have we become as a society. And Merlyn that is hewt. I like the long flowing dresses!!

Darth Maul is extremely cool.

well I tried to to that leave planet earth thing a couple of times and as you can see I was somewhat unsuccessful. I still listen to the music and I like the look and I do have a very sexy pair of vampire fangs which I pull out onhalloween to scare the boys with but mostly I don't feel? particulalry suicidal any more. It was NOT a good time though.

what killed that side of me was realising that sometimes the pain inside needs to be faced and dealt with rather than shoved aside. I talked to a therapist of months about some of the abuse I went through.

Now I am just a poser I suppose.

That's called growing up sweetie. And glad to hear that you did.

Damn right it is. Even when life sucks (no vampire pun intended), you just know you'll get through it and have a good giggle about it later.

well said el ...

i hitnk as you grow up you understand thats its all a uniform anyways be it polo shirts with ties , misfits shirts with black eyeliner , or what ever your genre. i grew up in auburn alabama and was exposed to punk rock and underground music via the college radio pretty young ( like 12 yrs old or so )..back in my day ( im 35 this year so im talking mid 80-s and beyond) i definitely looked the part. my hairs been any color you can imagine ( yes even pink for what ever smart arse was gonna type it ) i had the combat boots the whole nine yards. over time you do come to realize that being punk rock or goth or whatever is the attitude not the image and you start to mellow out. idont have to look the part to be it especially these days when punk rocks for sale at the mall. society itself is a steaming pile and yes you will be judged on your appearance way before your abilities ever have the chance to speak for you. to some degree everyone has to deal with that in one way or another . i myself decided to " drop out " of corporate america and left my mid lvl managment position for a manual labor wharehouse job ( my mom loves that im using that degree lmao ) where i work four days a week and have plenty of time to do whats really important LIVE LIFE and build wonderful memories in my head with my family and friends. to me thats way more important than some projected earnings number or what have you.

could not say it better myself... ( from the same era by the way..)..

Interesting as wierd as my childhood was I never once thought of suicide, I was subject to bouts of depression yes but who doesn't especially when you grow up in a commuinity where you can major in agriculture *sigh*.

I guess i have always been a rather positive and upbeat person to let things get to me.
