Technical question

At a friends place, the internet is friggin slow, although they actually have a 1 Mega connection, but the Internet itself using browser for surfing / downloading is somehow far to slow.

Downloads are often about 50 - 90 KB/s (which is near to what should be about, 120KB/s), pages though take ages to build up.
what can it be? it's not on one computer, it's on several computer in the house, also if all other computers are switched off and only one is used, still no difference (without filesharing progs in use).

is it the ISP, or can it be something with the router?
(for Brits: ISP is NTL, are they good normally, or often have issues like that?)

I would start with updating and running an anti virus program. I would then followup with a spyware removal tool like ad-aware and spybot. 90% of the issues i deal with where performace has degraded these are the cause.

Start there for openers
