What songs appeal to you, and why? May it be the lyrics, the melody, an instrument's sound, the voices, you name it.

I love so many different kind of songs, great variety in music. Here is one I like a lot by a Swedish group named Sarek. The beat and rhythm, plus the lyrics ^_^ (Tho they are in Swedish, the genre is kind of 'folk style')

Same song, but better sound in the one below, but in the one above you can see the actual group :)

I think the person that hosts the video on youtube has the option to allow or not allow video embedding in other sites. Only way to fix that is to get them to switch it on i think.

Nothing beats the 60's.

I thought I would just set the record straight. :p

Just about every musical genre current today was defined by the late 60's, with the arguable exception of Rap. For my part, I argue that Rap is mainly an amalgamated style deriving from elements in place by the 50's and 60s's, specifically rhyming slang set to R&B music.

I'm not saying that good music has not happened since then. I'm saying that the good that has come since then has been an overwhelming result of individual artistry in defined styes, not the definition of new styles.

Among my favorite songs from that time are Janis Joplin's version of "Summertime" (done with Big Brother), "St. Stephen" by the Grateful Dead (I love the spooky weird lyrics and Medieval aura), and the Beatles' "A Day in the Life". I'm sure I've missed some others that don't happen to be clogging up my brain right now.

Of course, a lot of people thing the 40's were the best. There is certainly some merit in that opinion, considering the pinnacle of BIg Band jazz and the birth of Bebop.
