I dont follow much sports, call me not a man but whatever most sports are boring to watch, but why in football (american) do the points go up by 7? what ever happened to one? are the people who created it too stupid to know how to count? Or do they get like 6 "bonus" point for getting their asses tackled so many time ands to cover the broken bones and concussions and shit?
Please help, it makes me wonder.

Field goal = 3 points
touchdown = 6 points (two FG) + en extra point opportunity
Extra point = 1 point if kicked (thus the 7, 6+1), but if you score in the endzone (run or pass) from the two yard line (instead of kicking it) you get two points.

So, why the score goes up by 7....blame the kickers.

It is just a sport you show everyone else the metric system sucks and is a fad that will pass.

you forgot to mention you can also score via a safety
[/b]

I really didn't want to get too much into it. He was asking where the 7 came from, thus the FG and TD needed explinations, nothing else.

now try to explain to him a point spread :D
[/b]

Reminds me, need to hit my father for making me believe (read: bet) on the Giants last weekend.

Who looks good to you this week?

PATS!!!!! Er or have they already lost out yet?
[/b]

/sigh

You should not be allowed to root for them dammit!

Why? They almost came to CT you know. pffftt

And sides. I watch the Superbowl. Well. Most years anyway.

Lines for this week's games (as of this morning)

SEATTLE -9 over Washington

DENVER -3 over New England

INDY -9.5 over Pittsburg

CHIGAGO -3 over Carolina

To me the easy bets are Chigago (Carolina is way overratted), and New England (One thing I have learned, do NOT bet against Mr. Brady in a playoff game, as much as I hate him, the playoffs bring out another level in him and his team).

Comments Stav?

I forsee a week of upsets and legends being made. Washington over Seattle. Chicago over Carolina. Pittsburg over Indy. Denver over New England.

Pittsburg knows how to beat Indy. They did it before, now they will go with confidence knowing that they can do it again. Washington will upset Seattle. I think seattle is gonna be going into this way too cocky. Washington is currently a sleeping giant.

Well I see Washington covering the spread, but not winning, but that wouldn't shock me too much if Wash won that game. Denver over NE isn't a "giant" upset, I just don't see it happening.

Pitt over Indy? That pick deserves it's own thread. Wow, really? I dunno about that one, eh, we'll see. If I was forced to bet on the other two games, I would take the points with Wash, and probably parlay Indy giving up points with the over for the game (47.5)

Field Goals are 3 points, not 6. Touchdowns are 6 (2 FGs), but why a FG is 3......have to look it up.

ok, ok you guys are missing my main question- i dont care if you break it down- why doesnt the point go up by 1- ie field goal= 1 point, touchdown = 1 point, etc
