I know...

Poor Cat

Hope she gets better soon

Snugglez you... She means a lot to you so we support you in this ^_^

I remember driving my cat to the hospital at like 3am because he had a blockage in his urinary tract. He wound up making it but it was close for awhile and I don't know what I'd do without him (had him since he was a stray kitten wandering around my house) Hope your kitty ends up ok.

I always wish for pussy to feel better. Remember kids, a healthy pussy is a fun pussy.

ROFL, you comment on Az, but ignored my post. Damn, and I thought I was being ruder!

P.S. WW is a certified animal medical type person, perhaps she can help with some suggestions.

P.P.S. I am glad your pussy cat is feeling better.

Didn't see yours until I had posted. Then I had to run for work  But, you pointed it out yourself so...

She is coming home tomorrow, she'll be a diabetic for the rest of her life, but she is alive, and doing well...thanks again everyone <3
Being a Vet tech, I hope to be able to manage her diabeties at home without too much trouble.

Diabetic kitty - wow that must be hard to manage. Do they make special cat food that is low in carbs? Do you need to give her insulin or can she take pills?

Just curious about the nature of diabetic kitties.

Yeah dibetic cats can be a nightmare to manage, the internists I worked with would always grit their teeth if a new on appeared on their books..I guess because of the longevity and unpridictability of the case. They do have a special cat food made by Hills Science Diet called DM...which is essentially much higher in protien, and as cats are by nature carnivores, one would think that more pet food companies would lean towards producing a cat food with a higher protien content, which studies have shown that cats need. Many cat foods you buy have things like wheat as the first ingredient, and the chicken or whatever protien content is further down the list. My cats eat dry food, but I do give them canned food also to try to keep the protien levels up.
With regards to my cat..she ended up getting DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) which is a complication of diabetes....she had been losing weight, ,but still eating, she was consuming more water than usual, and urinating more, initially I thought it might have been a thyroid issue..then she became wobbly, and lethargic and i noticed that her breath smelled like acetone or similar to pear drops..thats when i took her in. She stopped eating in hospital, and her liver values went off the scale, she bacame icteric (jaundice), and there was a risk that she would get Hepatic Lipidosis, so they put her on a CRI of insulin and syringe fed her. They tested her blood glucose every 4 hours. After a couple of days her liver values came down..and her glucose had setlled a little, so they took her off the CRI..and started her on 2 units of PZI long lasting insulin...then her liver values went up again..we were on the verge of sending her to an internist for an abdominal ultrasound..then over night her liver values came back to normal, they dropped by quite an astounding amout..which i have decided not to question lol....they have also dropped her to 1 unit of PZI as she started eating again, and so far that seems to be enough to keep her blood sugar where it needs to be for each day...so yeah when she comes home she will require insulin everyday...There are oral medications for diabetics...but i think i read somewhere that dogs do better with the pills than cats do (don't quote me on that) Managing a diabetic cat is like a rollercoaster some do better than others..hopefully mine will kep doing better. Oh and on top of this...she also has a grade 3 heart murmur (5 being the worst) This too will need to be investigated at some point :(
