Reek, aside from the gross needle in teh spine thing, was the surgery interesting to watch?
[/b]
Yeah it was! God I wish I had taped it. I had worn down my cartilege in my knee from too much mountain biking, and the doc shaved a spot of the cartilege to the bone. He then tapped the bone to make it bleed, which I guess coagulates or something and becomes the new cartilege.

Seeing it was just surreal. It looked like one of those submarine excursions in water.

i knew this one fool in the military who chose to have the type of drugs where you stay awake while he had his wisdom teeth (all 4) removed.

He said it was so horrable he wouldn't wish that on any of his enemies.
fixed :P

/raises paw

I was awake for all 4 of my wisdom teeth being removed as well. The last one was the worst, the doc actually put his foot up on the operating table to yank it out. And honestly, I felt very little pain...until the drugs wore off. Then I was sucking my food through a straw for almost a week.

that's cool. I love watching operations. I was so lucky to get to see a bunch of these open heart ops on dogs. I once got to see a doc put a cat's shattered femur back together using kershner apartatus and IM pins. Never really seen human ops irl though, but my folks were both in the medical field and I used to hear a lot of surgeries described by my dad. ( he was an oral sugeon.)

I suppose I got used to it, I tend to grin when people get all squeemish watching bloody stuff on tv or get freaked out by a bit of blood irl. I should also add that to this day I have been lucky enough not to have to witness anything realyl traumatic and gross in the human side of accidents and med stuff...but in the animal world... seen it all and it's not pretty but it is interesting.

my buddy said the same thing, he said he didnt feel pretty much anything. he said what bothered him the most is when he put the "chisel and mallet" into his mouth and started smacking away.

I woke up when they were stitching me up, and the medication was starting to wear off, so i felt alot of pulling, which still makes me like tense up when i think of it.

Heh, I had the type of drugs where you kinda float in and out of consciousness. I remember clearly saying something in French when the dentist asked me something, lol. But I also remember feeling at least one of my wisdom teeth being chiseled. It didn't hurt at all, but it was just like chiseling wood or something and I could feel the chisel break the tooth and the tooth crumble.

That's cool that you're in the vet business, Merlyn! I have a huge amount of respect for vets due to the sheer amount of knowledge they have. I mean a doctor just has to know the human body, but a vet has to know cat, dog, gerbil, cow, iguana, etc, etc.

I had my 7s removed instead of my 8s ( wisdom teeth) and i was under a GA for that I was 13.

my last root canal however took place without the benefit of freezing because I get SO anxious the drug is processed as fast as they can pump it into me.... i am all for anesthetic.

I was a veterinary technician actually, ( the person in between a vet and an assistant...we do a lot of the proceedures and the lab stuff but we don't diagnose or prescribe meds) worked in the field for 4 years and studied for 3 years. I don't do that any more I got really fed up of having to euthanise perfectly healthy cats and dogs and the business side of a vet's is really shadey.... it was not a good scene. But the medicine side of things was great. Sometimes I really miss that and yeah we need to learn many anatomies...we mostly study the dog, the cat, rodents, large animals cow, pig and horse. then if you want to you specialise... lizards, snakes, birds...etc...

My brother's wife ( who I used to work with before they got together) now specialises in avian medicine they have a bird sanctuary and she does a lot of whale stuff too.

very cool, she travels all over the world dealing with oil spills and bird rescue.

very interesting.

I stopped because I started to hate the work. By the time they started the bird sanctuary I was living in europe and my life had taken an entirely different path. I've been out of the vet world for a while now and am happier for it.

and I do help them just not in the vet med way. there are many ways to make a difference not all of them obvious and in the lime light.

no offense taken, you ask a valid question.

Nothing inherently, but added to someone like Rankin, and the image is too funny.
