EA Buys Mythic Entertainment Will EA finally find an MMO foothold in Warhammer Online? by David AdamsJune 20, 2006 - Given the wild success of World of Warcraft -- and its mighty contribution to Vivendi's coffers -- it isn't surprising that the biggest player in the industry would want to win at the MMORPG game, too.
Think of it, perhaps, as a new age from Dark Age. Electronic Arts announced today it will acquire developer Mythic Entertainment, best known for the Dark Age of Camelot online RPG.
Once the acquisition is complete, the Fairfax, Virginia-based developer will operate as EA Mythic, a wholly owned studio focusing on MMORPGs. Mythic is currently creating Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.
Mythic founder, president, and CEO Mark Jacobs will take the role of Vice President, General Manager of EA Mythic. The studio's 175-member team will remain in its current offices.
"The addition of Mythic to the EA family reflects our deep commitment to the online gaming market worldwide," said EA Studios president Paul Lee.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition, which is subject to standard closing procedures, is expected to be complete during EA's second quarter, which ends in September.[/b]
