Connecting a computer to stereo speakers

Hey everyone. I was planing on connecting my computer to my stero system in the basement, i was just wondering if there is some way that I can convert the miniplug for the speaker into and audio cable and still get stereo sound? And also, can this be connected to the normal speaker connection, or do I need to use a digital out?
