this is where you gotta have some sort of knowledge about what is real and what isnt. Your best bet into downloading the REAL game is to search for the application and download the CD Image (so the ISO, or BIN and CUE) or download the RAR or zip. But be sure the file size is REALISTIC. If Civ IV is like 2 CDs in the box, don't expect to be getting the real full game with a 200MB download. Also, when you serach for something, sort files by Download SPeed (fastest to slowest). The ones with speeds are the ones you want to download. After sorting by speed, look for the one with the most sources and get that one (if it is the real file you want). It takes some trial and error to figure things out. And downloads usually take a minute or two to start. Right clicking on the download in the "transfers" tab and chosing "find more sources" also helps
If you have a good virus scanner on (i use McAffe) it automatically scans the file for viruses when dowloaded. I don't encounter many viruses, unlike kazaa and winmx. there are occasional ones that get caught, but there aren't many
