Depending on which torrent program you used for those songs, you may have been able to select the individual song you wanted...unless it was a .zip or .rar of course. you may or may not have known that, just thought I'd let you know in case you didn't

Computer programs are kinda different. Most of them if they're not free then they're insanely expensive. After I'm done with the torrent I'm on now, my next target is a 3d animator that retails for around $4,000

Doesn't it emulate a CD drive, so you don't have to burn files to CD to use them?

It does emulate a CD/DVD drive, but i've never used it like that, so i don't know how to work that feature in it. What i do use it for is burning image files i download off of Shareaza for any software out there (games, software, etc). Image file extensions are .iso, .bin (which must be used in conjunction with .cue), .nrg, and .dmg. ISO files are the most popular, and next come BIN files, which require the CUE file from the same software to burn. I mean, you CAN use Alcohol as an emulator, but that just takes up Hard Drive space, which is why you're better off just burning those files to a CD or DVD. So just download the image file off of Shareaza or BitTorrent or whatever, and use Alcohol 120% to burn it onto a CD/DVD. And you can download Alcohol 120% off Shareaza too 
As for 3DMax, i simply requested a free trial CD from them which they mailed to me for free. Then i just downloaded the crack online and had all of 3DSMax for free Not sure if they still do that, that was like 3 years ago. I never really learned 3DMax, and haven't had much experience with Maya though

I use Alcohol as a virtual CD and also to burn some files.
Some games I have use this feature so I load up Alcohol and its like having the CD in the drive. B)
If I really am into a game I would go out and buy it. Anything Star Wars for sure. I haven't downloaded any games in ages. If I really like it after I have played it, I may go and buy it.
Music I've begun to get more. I don't get a lot of time to listen to albums and downloading exposes me to stuff I wouldn't normally listen to.
Software I hardly ever buy. Over here things cost too much and they are cracked so easily you don't even have to look hard. I'm not paying ?60 for Nero I don't use everyday.
Mainly I download TV shows these days and some films.
Torrents are amazing lifesavers for me with TV. I can get the latest Battlestar Galactica a day after the US release. I have no satelite so the only way I could watch them would be to buy the DVD at high ? in about 6 months time! :angry:
Some films are worth a watch but not buying. I may see the film 1st on d/l but lately if I see the DVD real cheap I usually end up buying that anyway.
