Need help with flash!

i have this project to do and i chose to do a little mini game with my friend.

Basically i need to get my player controled guy over to an npc and get him to start conversing via a keypress when i am within a certain distance. Ive tried loads of different methods but they usually end up with the guy talking when im nowhere near him which is annoying, any advice?
 
i dont really have one, i tried making an IF y=90 then goto and play next frame clause but no such luck... (im a flash noob)

Technically, that should work. Hmm. If its for school and there's a deadline, you could always look on www.flashkit.com and see if there's anything you can take and modify. I'll think about this and let you know later.
