Hey everyone, I have finally begun looking for a place to live for the next couple years while I finish school. Does anyone have some good pointers on where I could look to find apartments, it seemed like the internet was a dead end, because all i could find were the addresses of apartments.
Also if anyone has anything that I should be warned about when looking for/renting apartments, please share them.

newspapers, special housing newspapers ( just show apartments and houses for rent and sale usually free of a buck or so and come out either weekly or monthly)
university housing boards <--- have always had good luck with university and college housing boards
co op and health food shop bulletin boards
you should ask about whether or not heat / hot water is included in the rent or is separate ( utilities etc...) separate is often more expensive.
what the neighbours are like. It's not fun to live under or above idiots who think that playing their stereo at full blast until 5am every night is cool or that yapping dogs are to be treated like babies.
What you can expect in the way of rent increases ( rent control etc...)
Damage deposit = interest.
Do you have control over your heat or is it a central thing that only gets turned on mid winter ( yes have had this experienece)
are you allowed pets?
What the superintendant is like, does he/ she fix stuff or is that your responsability...
that's what I can think of off the top of my head. Been a longtime since I did this on my own and renting rules are vastly different in Eurpoe than in North America...
good luck. You'll know when you find the right place becasue it will say 'welcome home' when you find it.
