So last night me and my friend Dimitri (yes, he's greek), went and saw Munich. So, lets start off with the previews:
I gotta say, this was a great assortment of previews. One of the best preview sets i've seen in a long time. Thank You For Smoking seems to be a very clever and funny movie, I'm definately gonna see that. Mission Impossible 3...well, the trailer didn't really mean much, but its Tom Cruise kicking ass and blowing shit up, so i'll go see that. Inside man looks like another briallian Denzel movie, similar to John Q and stuff, so thats definately on my "go see" list. Surprisingly, Harrison Ford's new movie Firewall is NOT based off a Tom Clancy novel! The movie, Firewall, seems pretty interesting, dealing with bak robbers holding his family hostage and him getting them back and stuff. So although it isn't a tom clancy movie, it sure as hell sounds like one. Mel Gibson's new movie Apocalypto seems fucked up. Something to do with the Mayan civilization destroying itself. There's boobs in the movie, but the women with the boobs are unshaved and have sticks going through their nose and stuff. Not gonna see that. And lastly, American Dreamz has to be the stupidest fucking movie yet. Its an American Idol parody with a mock George W Bush being a judge and some arab guy going to the finals and bombing the arena. Oh yeah, kelly clarkson is in it i think. Don't see this retarded movie.
Ok, now to the movie. Munich fucking rocked. Think of it as a Bourne Identity but Spielberg style. It has an awesome story, great acting, gruesome visuals, and genius screenplay (everything the new SW trilogy lacked). The movie made you actually feel for the characters, like, REALLY feel for them. It made you think like the characters, made you suffer like they did. Eric Bana does an amazing job as the main character, Avner. You can visually and emotionally see and feel the psychological affects he goes through as the movie progresses.
Me and my friend were the only people laughing in the movie during the Athens bombing scene. The Greek hotel owner was ranting in Greek the entire scene, while people were getting shot. THe scene was not a funny scene, but we were laughing. And at the end of the scene, when the Greek guy gives the hitmen the "moutza (pronounced MOO-tzah)," or the greek equivalent to the middle finger and says, "Na Malaka!" we laughed even harded. I don't think the audience appreciated it. In fact, i think they thought were were anti-semetic, cause they flashed dirty looks to us after the movie and proceeded in talking in Yiddish to each other.
Overall, this movie gets 5 stars. If you want to see a movie that will put you in the shoes of the characters, take you through a wonderful storyline, and keep you on your toes the entire movie, Munich is a must see.
