Anyone catch UFC this weekend?

Fluffy

Vote Stewart/Colbert in '08!
Missed it, and was hoping someone caught it...only have read some recaps of the Geroge St. Pierre fight, would like a fellow fan's opinion.

If not, I am sure I can wait till it is shown on Spike TV in like a month of two.

True, however, I can't watch Boxing anymore, so I need something.

I watched it, was pretty good. Georgie did great even though he got cut up in the first round and was bleeding for the rest of the fight. Kind of felt bad for Penn, this was supposed to be his big comeback fight. L'oiseau Vs. Franklin was ridiculous. L'oiseau was dominated the whole fight, looked like he'd been through a meat grinder at the end of it, but surprisingly he kept getting up, didnt get a chance to use his elbows. He kept running away...not sure what his strategy was lol. In the end US won vs Canada 3-2 (the other fights werent very memorable)

We watch both UFC and PRIDE fighting (Japan), and in my opinion PRIDE is a higher calibur of fighter, plus its cheaper to watch...almost 40 bucks PPV to watch UFC now, its getting ridiculous. Anyone see it last night? The winners get put into a freeforall tourny, no weight classes...that will be awesome.

Thanks for the update. I read the Georgie fight was split decision and was shocked (figured Georgie would dominate), as for Frnklin fight...not surprised Rich is quite good, and putting Loiseau against him was not fair, he wasn't ready for that caliber of a fight yet.

Have trouble with Pride. First off, can't see that much of it (Spike TV is showing lots of UFC fights for free), and two what I have seen has been "prettier" than UFC, but the ground fighting is not of the same caliber as the UFC. Seems Pride has better strikers, or prettier strikers anyways.

Well Georgie didnt dominate but he definitely led the fight in the last two rounds...it was almost like Penn went on defensive because in his mind he made George bleed (imo by some very lucky punches that didnt really hurt George, just made him bleed alot) so he figured he had already won, and therefore effort to finish the fight and agressiveness went clearly to George. And Yeah Franklin ripped L'oiseau apart but it was impressive that he lasted for a decision.\

As for PRIDE, weve watched nearly all of them for the past 3 years and they have some real monsters. Fedor Emilianenko (sp?)(Russian) and Vanderlei Silva (Brazilian) are unbelievable, I would put them above anyone in the UFC any day.

Cool, I will keep an eye out for those two fighters. Thanks.

Eh?

Silva lost to Ortiz back in '00? http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Guild/5750/S/vsilva.html

He has only lost once since I have been watching him...so he has either vastly improved or Tito got lucky lol. And considering Tito isnt doing very well lately... :P

Oh man, Silva is 1-2 in the UFC....though it was 6 years ago. He does seem to have vastly improved since then. Again, will keep an eye out for him when he fights next.

Judging the way Tito used to fight (he is trying to make a comeback), I would guess Tito got lucky. Was his style, he was ahomerun hitter. He either landed the big blow or the big slam or he else he just hung on for dear life.

I watched calzaghe pwn Lacey.

Rofl lacey talked so much shit before the fight, not even sure he won a round lol.

Yeah and thats boxing :P

Last nights fight was pretty funny...Coleman (Hammerhouse) was pulled off Silva's teamate, "Shogun" Rua after he broke his elbow and Rua's brother rushed in a said something to Coleman starting a huge fight. I guess Silva jumped into the frey and sucker punched Coleman...it was all off camera but there had to have been 30 people in the ring.

He fought Belfour too...I wouldve liked to see that one. Always liked Belfour. (Plus hes hot!)

Grrrrrr, my wife loves Matt Hughes. I get her into the sport (she used to watch me fight) and then she goes and starts watching for hot guys too! Damn you women! This is a manly man's sport!

ROFL! Ahhhh, nothing more dangerous than ring brawls.

lol I am starting to dislike him a little, true hes very hot (your wife has good taste!) but hes getting a bit cocky. I think he needs to get taken down a notch or two and regain a bit of his humbleness (if thats a word)

I guess you don't get Spike TV in Canada, eh?

Man, they show tons of live fights for free on there.

Oh agree. Way too arrogant after he coached on the Ultimate fighter show.

Amazingly we do get Spike TV up here in our IGLOOS :P I tend to stick to the PPV events, hubby watches Ultimate fight night sometimes, but if it interferes with hockey, you can guess which wins out, we are Canadian after all lol

I tried to get into the Ultimate fighter, we had missed the first season and started watching season 2, but my God were there a lot of whiners..last one I watched before I got too annoyed to watch was some guy trying to cut weight and he was acting like a 2 year old, ended up missing it by 1 lb.

Edhina can you explain to me why players are allowed to fight in ice hockey? lol i just dont get it.

Because you are a fan of a pussy sport where everyone screams "Don't hit me!"

I watch football, for the sport. The entertainemnt of football for me is the best thing. We dont need fights to make the sport interesting and entertaining.

Why do you foreigners call it ICE hockey...its just HOCKEY, plain and simple Hockey. As for fighting its mostly for the fans. It gets the players reved up, gets the fans reved up. Why not? And itsnot really fighting, its mostly twirling around hugging each other, maybe throwing a few punches, not much danger to the athlete Imo lol

My Fav. team is the Flames and when Jarome Iginla gets in a fight and gets mad, he usually scores...so cant really disagree if it gets us a win :)
