Americans can be SO

Nah that's not arrogance. That's a US Carrier group - several large ships, which obviously thought the guys contacting them were a ship telling them to divert course. Why they didn't identify themselves and just said, "uh hi, move" is the problem.

how abou tthe lighthouse say umm were a lighthouse and you all need to move your ships ROFL.

We ran into this one time in our sailboat race.

We were sailing back "up the coast. It was about 8 pm. I was on watch out of a three man crew on our 30 foot sailboat. We had been sailing up the cost for 2 days now. 2 hours on watch 3 hours off watch. so were getting worn down. It was cold out side and the sea was 4 to 5 foot off the bow of our sailbaot. The radio was on and set to marine channel so we could hear and traffic that came across it. All of a suden the air jumped to live and said.
saliing vessal sail vessal and gave the lon and lat numbers out. I looked at the GPS on the bulkhead and said holy crap that is us. The repeated with this is US navy destory what are your intutions......
Ok i am wide wake now and the other two men off watch are getting up to see what the hell was going on. My old man was down below and got on the radio.. This is sailing vessal relentless send you traffic over. This is a US war ship and what are your intitions. At this point I was trying not to laugh to hard " were a fucking 30 foot sailboat with a ton of beer on board ROFL.. I told my old man to say we are going to board you. I got a durty look from him ROFL.. We said were are tryng to make our way to newport and birth the boat for the night. The ship cam e back on comms and said do you with to cross our bow " this is a hostal act" we said no we will give you a wide birth and go behind ya. All night that dam navy war ship was messing with the races on other sail boats....

So they would risk collision instead of simply taking simple measures to avoid it?
[/b]

Moving (what was) the major North Altlantic fleet is never a "simple measure".

I am sure it was for the greater good of the country

/sailorA: Hey! We are out of beer!
/sailorB: Oh crap, where are we?
/sailorA: Just coming up on Greenland
/sailorB: Hmmmmmmm, got a hankerin for some Labatt Bleue? (spelled the canadian way)
/sailorA: Fuck yeah!
/sailorB: Canada, here we come!

Never said they were right, but the prospect of being asked to move at least 6 major ships at once because some snowback told you to, it is understandable why they responded how they did.

There's somethinig refreshing about a Canadian Grizzly holding a bottle of ice cold Labatt Blue

That carrier group could have moved that lighthouse if they had wanted to :).

that was funny.

Being a former carrier sailor, and having a basic understanding of the "rules of the road" (that's what they call it) the carrier being the larger vessel has the right of way.

Smaller navy ships in open water usually navigate around the commercial shipping.

BUT, in the end I also have to call shenanigans... the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN is a west coast ship... it wouldn't have been off the coast of Newfoundland in 1995.

FYI Bleue is in french and a feminine word and it is also an adjective to the word Beer that is itself a feminine word so that is why bleue is spelled that way.

Normally spelled bleu

Hmmm not sure i'm clear here but anyway :P just wanted to let you guys know
