So yah, I have this assignment due tomorrow which requires me to survey people. My bad. I forgot all about it.

Anyways I need a topic to collect data, and I guess a decent topic would be something along the lines "personal anti-virus, and firewalls lower the rate of intrusion on home computers". Yah it's gay I know but meh.

Anyways if people could quickly answer these questions for me, I'd really appreciate it:

Do you have personal anti-virus on your home computer? Yes

Do you have a personal firewall on your home computer? Yes

Do you keep your anti-virus updated (automatically or manually) on your home computer? Yes, automatically

Do you keep your personal firewall updated (automatically or manually) on your home computer? Yes, automatically

Do your run anti-virus scans regularly (automatically or manually) on your home computer? No

Have you to your knowledge ever had a virus, trojan or other malicious software on your computer? Yes

If so, how did you detect/clean the software? Most of the time the anti-virus software catches it just as it installs, but for many items it does not catch them until they are accessed or scanned. Lately, the antivirus software has performed poorly in removing, so I resort to technical guides online or do a complete hard disk re-zero.

If so, at the time did you have anti-virus/firewall software on your computer and updated? Yes

On a rating from 1 to 10, where 1 is not at all knowledgeable and a 10 is a a guru, how would you rate your computer knowledge? 8

Do your run anti-virus scans regularly (automatically or manually) on your home computer? once a week


Have you to your knowledge ever had a virus, trojan or other malicious software on your computer? not since 8 low level formats ago

If so, how did you detect/clean the software? regedit

If so, at the time did you have anti-virus/firewall software on your computer and updated? didnt

On a rating from 1 to 10, where 1 is not at all knowledgeable and a 10 is a a guru, how would you rate your computer knowledge? 8

Do you have a personal firewall on your home computer? No, University Hardware Firewall does a good enough job

Do you keep your anti-virus updated (automatically or manually) on your home computer? Yes, it's automatic, twice a day.

Do you keep your personal firewall updated (automatically or manually) on your home computer? N/A

Do your run anti-virus scans regularly (automatically or manually) on your home computer? Once a week, using the one on my PC, and the online scanner at housecall-trendmicro.

Have you to your knowledge ever had a virus, trojan or other malicious software on your computer? Yes

If so, how did you detect/clean the software? Trendmicro found it, if it couldn't delete/clean it, got a specialised tool for it, or went into safemode and did my best to remove it from there. In the past I've had some serious badly virii, just formatted the Hard drive to remove it, no other way.

If so, at the time did you have anti-virus/firewall software on your computer and updated? Yes Anything serious will get through regardless of what you have on your PC most the time.

On a rating from 1 to 10, where 1 is not at all knowledgeable and a 10 is a a guru, how would you rate your computer knowledge? 9 - I'm not perfect

Have you to your knowledge ever had a virus, trojan or other malicious software on your computer? Yes

If so, how did you detect/clean the software? Was detected during a full scan and quarantined and cleaned by the program.

If so, at the time did you have anti-virus/firewall software on your computer and updated? Yes
