Her assuming your drinks were ok, was her fault also. Ask anyone who has been a server, myself included, you ALWAYS ask the customer if they'd like another drink, refill, etc.
So I agree with you being upset with the waitress, HOWEVER, you have to realize she was probably in a section with at least 5-6 tables that night. That may not sound like much but thats anywhere from 12-48 people she has to be dealing with. Its not right for her to totally neglect you, but your tip is her income. As bas as the service is, at least shovel out the %15. Her income is derived from people's courtesy, whereas it may not have been that big of a hit to her on a night such as Valentine's. Any other day it could've hurt. Just something to think about. I ALWAYS tip at least 15% even if its shitty service, if I have a good server I've tipped people 15$ on a 40$ check more than once.
She was a bad waitress but cut her some slack, she had to been having a shitty day.
I've worked in a few different food service places since I was 16, most recently Olive Garden. And everywhere I've worked at so far the salad is prepared by the serving staff. So that aspect was her fault but the food part you can't put on her. Myself being a cook, sometimes it takes a while to get your order up. If the place is super busy then we are making the food in the same order it is put into the machine.Dude, I don't care how busy the place was. The waitress coming over for the first time, 25 minutes after you sit down is completely unacceptable. She didn't recognize the drinks were empty, and she didn't check in with their meal or in with the other tables. That's a bad waitress, can't pin that stuff on anyone but her.
<------ Worked in all facets of the resturant buisness during summers in college. I pulled that crap, I wouldn't expect a tip from my table either.
P.S. At the resturants I worked at, the waiters/waitresses made the salads.
